Earlier this year, Cathy Pickrell joined us for our annual St. Jude Radiothon. She spent an hour with us and shared her experience of what it's like to lose a child.  Her Roxie passed away in late 2019 after being diagnosed with a brain tumor at the age of 13.  After an extensive surgery to remove that tumor, Roxie just never really woke up and forced her family, friends and community to say goodbye.  The only thing?  We haven't said goodbye and we don't really have to thanks in part to Cathy's commitment to keeping Roxie's spirit alive.

In a few months, that spirit will be soaring again with the return of the Run/Walk for Foxy Roxie, a now annual 5K event that celebrates Roxie and the community that rallied around her and her family.

This year's run will take place on Saturday, June 4th at Moreland Park here in Owensboro.  Here's the official poster for the event.

This morning, Cathy joined Angel and me on the WBKR morning show to chat about Roxie and the event.

Proceeds from this year's 5K Run/Walk for Foxy Roxie will be donated to a local non-profit.  Cathy has quite a history dedicating her time to various organizations around town.  She has competed for the mirror ball trophy in Owensboro's Dancing with Our Stars for the Boulware Mission.  She has twice competed in Puzzle Pieces' Lip Sync Battle. And, like I mentioned above, she selflessly joined us for our annual St. Jude Radiothon and shared her painful, yet ultimately inspirational personal journey.

You can be a part of Roxie's story and legacy by signing up for the upcoming 5K.  As mentioned, this year's event will take place at Moreland Park, which sits in the heart of Owensboro.
