Do you remember that time back in 1986 when the DOMINANT Chicago Bears mopped up the floor with a then-"just glad to be here" New England Patriots team in the Super Bowl? The Bears rocked the Pats 46-10. Trust me...we were surprised that the pre-Belichick/Brady Patriots MANAGED to put 10 points on the board. That's how good the Bears were that season.

But you know what? Refrigerator Perry and company weren't done.

ATHLETES ON THE MUSIC CHARTS

Before that lopsided victory, the team had recorded a novelty rap called "The Super Bowl Shuffle." It stopped just short of the Billboard Top 40, peaking at #41 in February 1986. Nonetheless, the Bears picked up a Grammy nomination for the performance in 1987. Good thing they won, right? (Who am I kidding? It was never in doubt.)

While it's difficult to find athletes who've found success on the music charts--Billboard Magazine would be a great source, but the iconic publication has a very strict paywall--I do know of at least one who has.

SHAQUILLE O'NEAL AKA DJ DIESEL IS COMING TO WKU

Shaquille O'Neal has actually been enjoying success from his side hustle for decades; his first album, Shaq Diesel, peaked at No. 10 on the Billboard R&B Album Chart in 1993. It was certified gold and yielded two top 10 rap hits in "(I Know I Got) Skillz" and "I'm Outstanding." There have been other albums and singles that have grazed various Billboard charts over the last three decades, as well.

He's clearly been having a lot of fun. And he's bringing his show to Western Kentucky University on October 21st when the Hilltoppers host the University of Alabama-Birmingham (UAB) at L.T. Smith Stadium. He performs under the pseudonym DJ Diesel. Here's a clip from his recent concert at the Hollywood Palladium:

DETAILS ABOUT THE DJ DIESEL (SHAQ) CONCERT

The concert will happen at 5 PM before the game in the Upper South Lawn tailgate area. Here are more details about the concert from WKU's College Heights Herald:

The top 50 Red Wave Point Holders will have guaranteed access to a VIP area in front of the stage for the DJ Diesel concert. The rest of the Red Wave users will be entered to win 1-of-100 spots in the VIP area in front of the stage. Students must register in the Red Wave App by Oct. 14 to be entered to win. Winners will be notified by Oct. 18. Each student will be required to show their student ID as well as their Red Wave Profile to be entered to win. Students will also be entered to win prizes by checking into the Red Wave App at the game.

I can't find why the NBA icon has included Bowling Green and the WKU-UAB on his 2022 tour, but who cares. He's coming and that is AWESOME!

Attendees at the concert are encouraged to dress in black as the team will be wearing its blackout uniforms for the game.
