Kentucky Derby

I love any excuse to have friends over and eat!  The Kentucky Derby is the perfect opportunity to get creative with your party planning.  Here are some fun ideas!

It's horse betting season; I mean the Kentucky Derby is this Saturday. Oddly, Kentucky is one of the least gambling-addicted states.

I am in love with this story and this horse. The 143rd Kentucky Derby is about a week away and one horse will compete with a pretty noticeable disadvantage. Meet Patch, the one-eyed Derby contender.

Who doesn't enjoy a good piece of Derby-Pie? It's basically a glorified pecan pie, only the filling consists of a bourbon and chocolate chip mix with a hard nut top and pastry crust. Championship jockey Calvin "Bo-rail" Borel is retiring. He rode three winners, Street Sense in 2007, Mine That Bird in 2009, and Super Saver in 2010 to the winners' circle at the Kentucky Derby.

Have you ever been to Churchill Downs to watch the Kentucky Derby? I've seen it 30+ times on TV but have never seen it live. Let me tell you, it's a RUSH - even if you don't have a horse in the race! I was able to snap some photos of the contenders as they made their way to the gate and during the race!

Today, we hung out at the red carpet for hours and hours and hours at the Kentucky Derby! Our pain is your guilty pleasure. Check out all the pics!

One of my best friends grew up in Louisville and never missed the Kentucky Derby. He went every year he lived there. And he always did the infield. Naturally, that's where we find Jaclyn this afternoon.

What must you wear to the Kentucky Derby? A big ole' hat! And, y'all know I just had to get a giant hat, ha! The only problem is, I didn't account for getting into my car. Take a look, it gets interesting, ha!
