Over the weekend, the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce celebrated its 100th anniversary with more than 500 business members, leaders, and guests. Several awards were given that evening including the Member of the Century and the Joe Lowe Communicator of the Year.

C. Waitman Taylor, Chamber Board Chairman in 1968, was chosen as the Chamber Member of the Century, the top award of the night sponsored by First Security Bank.

The Joe Lowe Communicator of the Year award, sponsored by WaxWorks, was created by the Chamber to honor the long-time radio personality who supported the Chamber. Kirk Kirkpatrick was chosen as the first recipient of the award.

Other award winners include:

2012 Chamber Director of the Year – Shirley Cecil, Republic Bank

2012 Chamber Ambassador of the Year – Minga Trogdlen, Independence Bank

2012 Chamber Young Professional of the Year, sponsored by BB&T – Laura Alexander, Owensboro Convention Center

Two Chamber members were recognized as 100-year members, having been a part of the founding group of the Owensboro Businessmen’s Association in 1913. The recipients were the Messenger-Inquirer and Glenmore Distilleries.
