After last weeks final budget announcement, it's plain to see that Owensboro is on the brink of the largest tax increase we've ever seen. In an urgent statement released today, the Owensboro Chamber Board Chair and Advocacy Chair laid out a budget plan for the Mayor and Commissioners to consider.

I'm so glad that we have the Owensboro Chamber of Commerce in our corner. I've always known that they do great things for our community, but as a resident and tax payer, I couldn't be prouder than I am today.

Board Chair, Wade Jenkins and Advocacy Chair, Mark Martin laid out a solid plan to help Owensboro get back on track without raising taxes so high that it'll hurt local businesses and residents. They certainly did their homework.

In the statement they unveiled a "One for One" plan.

"We believe that for every new dollar taken from the taxpayer, there should be a dollar cut in REAL Expenses (not deferred spending). We call it the “One for One Plan.”  It is a good faith partnership between those who pay taxes and those who are stewards of our money."

Please read the statement in it's entirety and let us know your thoughts. I learned so much that I didn't know. For more follow the Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce Facebook Page.
