The 4th of July is right around the corner and fireworks stores here in the tristate are getting very busy. If you have plans to have your own fireworks show or celebration, here's what you need to know- especially if you live in the city limits of Owensboro. The city has a very specific fireworks ordinance and here's what it says.

#1-  Some folks don't realize this, but it's actually LEGAL to set off fireworks year-round here in town.  However, there are time limits in place for those celebrations. Normally, fireworks may only be used between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.

#2-  There are certain days during the year when those time limits are actually expanded.  In fact, fireworks may be used between 10:00 a.m. and Midnight on the following dates only-

• December 31st through January 1st
• July 3rd
• July 4th
• Memorial Day

• Within 200 feet of any vehicle (operational or non-operational)
• Within 200 feet of any other person
