Coming up on July 8th at the Owensboro Health Regional Hospital, The Kentucky cancer Program will hold a "Plan to Be Tobacco Free cessation class.

On July 8th there will be two classes, one from 10am-11am and the other from 6p-7p.  The event is free and was developed by KCP to let tobacco users know what is available to them if their decision is to quit tobacco.

Jamie Rafferty, a cancer control specialist with KCP said "We know tobacco is the single-most preventable cause of death in Kentucky.  We want to givve people hope that they can quit, and by using a plan, they can increase the likelihood of being successful.  Rafferty will be on had to speak about tobacco use and the addiction to nicotine.  Those in attendance will be able to get resource material to help them quit.  Rafferty also said "We address a person's readiness to quit.  If they're ready to take the next step to quitting, we'll talk about over-the-counter medications they can take, or medications through their health care provider.  And we'll talk about the benefits of having support.

The "Quit Now" program is available by calling 1-800-784-8669.  You'll be connected with a trained tobacco counselor by telephone. Jamie Rafferty says "We assess a person's habit, and we look at a plan that will help them quit."

If you plan to attend a class you can call 1-270-688-4856 to get registered.  Walk-ins are also welcome.
