TV icon Mary Tyler Moore has passed away at age 80. On The Dick Van Dyke Show, Moore played Laura Petrie, the wife of the title character and in 1970, she played single gal and TV producer Mary Richards on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. 

Moore passed away due to complications from diabetes, a cause she tirelessly campaigned for, especially juvenile diabetes research. She was also an advocate for animal rights, specifically the charity Broadway Barks. The actress pulled a 180 in 1980 by playing against her comedic persona in Ordinary People for which she earned a Best Actress nomination.
