I'm running it. I've been wanting to for the last couple of years, but my schedule never allowed for it.  But, this year, since the race is taking place in November, I have zero excuse. So, I'm going to throw on my tennis shoes and knock down the Wendell Foster Center Half Marathon.

Last year's event was canceled due to COVID-19. However, the 13.1 mile run is making its return in a few weeks and organizers are still rallying participants.  If you've ever wanted to attempt a half marathon, this is the perfect one to tackle. It's in November, People!  That means Fall temperatures!!  Speaking as someone who has run half marathons in the middle of June and nearly perspired by face off, I'm here for the change of pace. In fact, a lot of folks are.

As of this story, there are 525 runners registered for the race, which begins and ends at Smothers Park in downtown Owensboro.  The race gets underway at 7:30am on Saturday, November 13th.  Here's a look at the official course.

This morning, Kara Howard and Sara Poole joined Angel and me to discuss the big event.

If you'd like to get signed up to run, you can do so now by CLICKING HERE! The entry fee is $80 through November 8th.  However, our friends at Wendell Foster Center are giving WBKR listeners access to an exclusive discount code.  If you use the promo code WBKR10 you can save $10 off your registration now through October 29th.  And, keep in mind that there is NO race day registration.

Pre-race day packet pickup registration will be 11am to 7pm on Friday, November 12th at the Owensboro Convention Center. The day of- packet pickup will be from 5:45am to 6:45am at Smothers Park where the race begins.

The Wendell Foster Half Marathon is, of course, an officially timed 13.1 mile course, with water stations positioned along the race route. There is also a "Running Stoller Division" that's designated for participants with disabilities.

This is the 3rd Annual Half Marathon and will again include cash prizes for the top finishers. Plus, there will be awards given for the top three finishers if each of these divisions: 13-15 • 16-19 • 20-24 • 25-29 • 30-34 • 35-39 • 40-44 • 45-49 • 50-54 • 55-59 • 60-64 • 65-69 • 70-74 • 75+
Now, if you'd rather not run the event, but want to participate in another way, try this.  The Wendell Foster Center is currently looking for volunteers for "cheer zones" along the route.
