Idols No Longer Exist, Or Do They? [SHAPED BY FAITH]
I used to think of idols as little ceramic dolls from Bible times to which people would pray. I believed the lie that idols no longer exist.
Then one day God led me to listen to a message from Gwen Shamblin of Weigh Down Ministries. In her speech, she pointed out Ephesians 5:5 which says,
“For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.”
Then she made a connection that was revolutionary for my life. She said that when I overeat, I am being greedy and according to scripture, greed is idolatry and idolaters have no inheritance in the kingdom of God. Yikes! I had never thought of that before. I cannot possibly live my life greedy for food! I want to receive that glorious inheritance!
After that sermon, I wanted to learn more about this connection between food and the Spirit so I found her website and joined a Bible study class. I praise God for this ministry that cracked opened my eyes and my heart to the changes that God wants to make in me. It started a journey of honesty with myself and with God. The more that I study God's Word, the more that I change, and the more that my love for God grows.
