A Big Welcome to One of Western Kentucky’s Newest Italian Restaurants
If I were to ask for a show of hands regarding who among you loves Italian food, I imagine I'd see a lot of hands. I love it too, but maybe I'm a little boring in this regard.
You see, my absolute favorite Italian dish is spaghetti. That's right spaghetti. There are a gazillion Italian dishes that chefs the world over have perfected. And for me? Yep...spaghetti. However, I was told by a server (and a very good one) at a Cleveland restaurant one time--it was an Italian restaurant--that I should downplay the fact that all other forms of Italian cuisine take a back seat (for me) to spaghetti.
He was right. No two restaurants--or chefs, I'm guessing--make this signature comfort food the same way. So there. I'm off the hook.
New Italian Restaurant -- Tavola Dei Nonna -- Opening Soon in Henderson
And when Henderson KY's newest Italian bistro opens and I get a chance to visit, I will find out, firsthand, just how good they are at preparing one of my favorite dishes. I have a feeling I'll be very pleased.
Welcome to the tri-state, Tavola dei Nonna.
What's on the Menu at Tavola Dei Nonna?
The former location of Johnny B's and Firedome Pizza inside the Ramada Inn on Highway 41 in Henderson will now fill up with the wonderful aromas of baked ziti, eggplant parmesan, chicken cacciatore, and classic lasagna. There's also something called polpetta gigante with spaghetti. That simply means spaghetti with an enormous meatball--a half-pound of beef and sausage--simmering in the middle.
I don't know about you but I'm already looking for a napkin...and maybe a bib. I can't imagine diving into, say, Italian meatloaf (that, too, is on the menu) without getting it all over me. But what a blessed mess. And all those delicious menu items will be made fresh. Take it from Tavola dei Nonna itself:
Our pastas will be made from scratch every morning while our homemade sauces simmer to those deep rich flavors that make your mouth water.
Oh by the way, "tavola dei nonna" is Italian for "grandma's table." So, perfect, right?
And What About That Tavola Dei Nonna Dessert Menu?
And while the dessert menu only features three items, they're the three items I would expect, and I probably wouldn't want to try anything else. Seriously, cannolis, tiramisu, and zeppoles (fried pastry dough dusted with cinnamon and sugar) are three of the best desserts on the planet, and they're all Italian. Some would say that's as it should be.
Tavola dei Nonna will be open Monday through Thursday from 4 PM until 10 PM, Fridays and Saturdays from 12 PM until 11 PM, and Sundays from 12 PM until 10 PM.
Tavola dei Nonna opens March 13th.
