Beginning in 2018, the Boys Scouts of America will let girls join the organization. And the girls will be able to work toward eligibility for the Eagle Scout classification, the Boy Scouts' highest honor.

The organization has been for boys only for more than 100 years but the vote to allow girls to join was unanimous, according to a report from NBC News.

Next year, girls will be able to join the Cub Scouts. There will girls only dens and boys only dens.

In 2019, there will be a separate program for older girls, enabling them to qualify for the Eagle Scouts.

While women have been Boy Scout troop moms for years, this will be the first time girls will actually be allowed to join the scouts, themselves.

There's been word yet on what effect, if any, this will have on the Girl Scouts organization.
