Bullied Tennessee Fan Offered Full UT Scholarship
Man, I tell you what, this story just keeps getting better and better. It's the one that all began with an Orlando, Florida 4th-grader, also a University of Tennessee fan.
On Spirit Day at his school, he drew his own UT logo on a piece of paper and attached it to an orange shirt he was wearing.
After getting picked on about it, his teacher posted the drawing and the next thing you know, the Vols had a brand new shirt design.
The story is spectacular if it stops right there.
But it didn't.
Taking the boy's design and turning it into a new t-shirt was amazing enough, but now the University of Tennessee has offered him a full four-year scholarship when the time comes, according to a university press release.
The offer is one of "honorary admission to join the class of 2032."
But the scholarship is the real deal, one that would cover four years of tuition and fees beginning 2028, if the boy should choose to attend the University of Tennessee and meet the admission requirements.
Also, the university goes on to say that more than 50,000 shirts bearing his design have already been pre-ordered.
And then there's this. Proceeds from all sales of this shirt will be donated to Stomp Out Bullying.
That's an organization near and dear to my heart.
I was bullied as a kid, but it was not as harsh and cruel and unyielding as it is today, thanks to social media.
Anyway, this is great news and my hat is off to the University of Tennessee. It's not an orange hat, but it's still off.
