Honestly up to this point, I thought Christmas in July was just a marketing plan for retail businesses to get holiday shopping in the minds of consumers during the summer months. Don't get me wrong, I believe it's a brilliant strategy. Who doesn't love that time of the year? To celebrate the halfway point definitely gets people excited.

Did You Know Christmas In July Is A "Thing" In Illinois

I was searching around on the great Google machine for fun activities to do this weekend and a couple of holiday events popped up. Then I took it a step farther and searched Christmas in July. I discovered a whole list of fun stuff. That's when I figured out it's an actual "thing" in Illinois and a lot of people celebrate. There was quite a list that included some shopping deals, charity functions, and running races. One did stand out to me.

I did find one event that I think would be fun for the whole family. It's Christmas In July Drive-In Bingo which features many fun activities. To start out, there is a Christmas decoration contest for cars with an award for the most outrageous. Of course, holiday costumes for people are encouraged too. Each vehicle will get its own parking spot with plenty of room for chairs. Also, participants will get a Bingo card to play along with for prizes. Snacks will also be provided. Instead of yelling out "Bingo," cars will flash their lights and honk their horn. There will be special guest Bingo callers.
