Certain Drones Must Be Registered with the FAA
Did you get anything for Christmas that flies? Chances are if it's a drone, there must be some prep before you get it off the ground.
Now, not all drones are affected. If the one you have weighs over 0.55 pounds then it must be registered with the FAA. It's really not that big of a hassle. A drone ID number must be attached to the device and the fee to register is only five dollars.
Users who fail to register a bigger drone are subject civil and criminal penalties, including jail time. Drones are currently prohibited around airports, major sport stadiums, and wildfire fighting operations. One area drones are not banned from flying over is a private home.
