In a follow up to the story first reported yesterday, charges have been filed against the suspect in the afternoon standoff with Owensboro Police Officers.

On Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at approximately 4:00 p.m. OPD officers responded to 1130 W. 4th Street to serve an arrest warrant on Odis Barrett.

While inside the residence, Barrett brandished a handgun and fired multiple rounds in an unsuccessful attempt to strike the officers. Barrett then fled on foot northbound and was observed by the shift supervisor. Barrett attempted to fire his weapon at that supervisor before barricading himself inside the residence at 1115 W. 3rd Street.

OPD detectives and members of the Emergency Response Team, Crisis Negotiations Team, and Hazardous Devices Unit were called to the scene as well as personnel from the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office. After approximately five hours of negotiations with Barrett, he exited the residence and surrendered to authorities without further incident.

Odis Barrett was transported to the Owensboro Police Department for questioning. He is currently lodged in the Daviess County Detention Center on the below listed charges. (Photo not available at the time of this release)

Resisting Arrest – Class A Misdemeanor

Fleeing or evading police, 2nd Degree (on foot) – Class A Misdemeanor
