Recently a father wrote into Christmas Wish asking for help this holiday season. A husband had lost his wife, leaving the family broken. He wants to give his son the best Christmas ever. This is where Firehouse Subs and the Burns Foxes Volleyball team come in. You can eat some delicious food today and know you're helping to heal a local family.

Every year we get so many families who are suffering during the holidays. The toughest are humble fathers who come in feeling lost. They've never asked for help before and it's hard walking through those Christmas Wish doors. You can see the pain in their eyes as they tell their stories. A local father recently lost his wife and felt helpless. We vowed to help his child have the best Christmas ever. Now, the entire community is rallying to make that dream a reality.

FIREHOUSE SUBS IS HOSTING A GIVEBACK DAY TO HELP A LOCAL FAMILY

John Allen and the team at Firehouse Subs in Owensboro have always been big supporters of Christmas Wish. Every Friday, he feeds the hard-working volunteers throughout the season. He donates to our fundraisers, and today he's giving back to help others. Travis Mason and the Burns Foxes Volleyball team want to help this deserving family, while you get to eat some delicious food. Come out Tuesday, December 13th, 2022, from 10:30 AM until 9 PM because all-day Firehouse Subs will donate 20% of all sales to the mission. No coupon is needed. You can also donate by Venmo @Travis-Mason-55 and put Christmas Wish in the memo. When a family needs us, we never let them down. Let's fill Firehouse Subs for this father who lost so much, and for a child who needs us the most.

OVER 1,900 CHRISTMAS WISH LETTERS RECEIVED

Before we get to the hottest toys, the trend with this year's letters is alarming. 70% of the letter submissions are asking for clothes. 25% are asking for simple things like socks and underwear. Many are just asking for personal hygiene products. In my seven years as the director of Christmas Wish, this is the most requests I've seen. We offer new winter coats to any child that needs one but only supply clothing if we have some on hand. We focus more on toys for children and a Christmas meal for the family. If you can donate socks, underwear, or pajamas it would be greatly appreciated.

HOW TO SIGN UP FOR A LARGE GROUP TO VOLUNTEER?

We always need volunteers every season at Christmas Wish, but you may not know that each year we also have days or nights set aside for families/businesses (15 or more people) to come and help at Christmas Wish. Some will bring pizza and make it a fun outing. Business employees volunteer to bond. Everyone who volunteers wants to give back. Your efforts give over 6000 children an amazing Christmas morning.

If you have a business or family that would like to reserve a spot, we'd love to have you. Email Barb Birgy at christmaswish@wbkr.com to inquire about open days/times to volunteer. Christmas Wish is a magical place to volunteer, and we can't wait to meet you there!
