Daviess County Public Schools Will Go to NTI (Non-Traditional Instruction) for the Rest of the Week
Don't look now, but we seem to be having a more active winter than we've had in quite some time. As I write this, we are under a winter weather advisory with rapidly falling temperatures and snow accumulation the order of the day.
SNOW DAYS OF OLD
When DCPS@Home was introduced, I couldn't help but remember a couple of MASSIVE winter storms--in consecutive Januaries--when I was in fifth and sixth grade. They happened in 1977 and 1978, but it's the '77 blizzard that stands out. I left an art project sitting on my desk on a Friday. By Sunday, the snow was falling like I'd never seen it fall before. And since it was the 1970s (the Dark Ages), we had to get up early Monday morning to find out there was no school. That's right, EVEN with that kind of snowfall, we didn't know until we knew. If there'd been anything like DCPS@Home back then, I wouldn't have returned to class three weeks later to find my art project still sitting there and covered in dust.
DCPS@HOME EMPLOYED
But it's 2022, and DCPS@Home has been introduced and will be utilized for this Thursday and Friday, January 20th and 21st. These will be the fourth and fifth such days of 2022.
This new way to handle "snow days" emerged with the COVID-19 pandemic and will not result in a long list of make-up days later in the school calendar. Plus, assignments for elementary, middle school, and high school students will not involve NEW subject matter, but rather topics and lessons that have already been covered. These assignments are available at dcps.org/athome.
To date, there has been only one official snow day--January 6th--and that will be made up on Presidents' Day, February 21st.
