Derby Bettors Will Be Refunded after Maximum Security DQ
After one of the most controversial endings in sports history, the bettors who had Maximum Security winning the 145th Kentucky Derby lost big time. However, there's a slight light at the end of the disqualification tunnel.
Twinspires.com, Churchill Downs' online wagering service, tweeted they will refund up to $10 to everyone who bet on Maximum Security to win.
In total, almost $9 million was bet on Maximum Security, including over $1 million for the colt to Place (2nd) and over $1 million to Show (3rd). The track said wagering this year went up by 10 percent. to a record $165.5 million.
Over half a million was wagered on Country House to win.
Derby attendance was down four percent from last year.
