Donald Trump Is Now Attacking the NFL, Who’s Left?
Donald Trump is on the warpath. Again. Or still. Whichever.
This time, the controversial Republican presidential hopeful is taking on the NFL. While speaking at a rally in Reno, Nev. on Sunday, the Donald went after NFL football in a blistering tirade in the wake of Saturday's hard-hitting playoff game between the Bengals and the Steelers.
Trump connected the penalties for hard hits to the current state of America:
But football has become soft like our country has become soft. It’s true. It’s true. The outcome of games has been changed by what used to be phenomenal, phenomenal stuff.
It's a two-minute diatribe full of passion and even some humor, along with historical comparisons, but you can't help but note that Trump, a former owner in the USFL who is often cited as one of the main reasons the league folded, is going after the NFL.
It's also worth remembering that Trump is questioning the idea of flagging potentially dangerous hits in an era when fans are aware of the possible long-term damage they can do (see: Concussion). Perhaps not ironically, he did have some nice things to say about Tom Brady, who, like Trump, is a polarizing figure.
