The Greater Owensboro Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Corporation are teaming up again this year to sponsor Emerge Owensboro, a community leadership development program.  By immersing participants in local issues and developing their leadership abilities, this program encourages local business leaders to utilize their talents for the betterment of Owensboro and their employers.

“My experience with Emerge Owensboro was invaluable. The curriculum – a year of intense focus on every aspect of the Owensboro community – is one of the most innovative approaches to service-learning I have ever encountered,” said Joe Berry, the Downtown Project Manager with the Greater Owensboro Economic Development Corporation. “I sincerely hope that others take advantage of this opportunity to build the foundation for the future of Owensboro that we can all be proud of.”

Classes will consist of both half-day and full-day sessions and will include topics such as education, the local economy, human needs and services, local and state government issues, healthcare and more.  Class members will be required to participate in local meetings such as city/county commission meetings, local school board meetings and others.  A trip to Frankfort in February will allow class members to meet state legislators.

The tuition cost for Emerge Owensboro is $450.  Applications are due by July 9th and class notification will be made by August 10th.   The fourth Emerge Owensboro class will begin in September at Rooster Booster and conclude with graduation at the May 2013 Rooster Booster.
