It has become an annual event and the need is growing. Brescia University is preparing for the annual Empty Bowls fundraiser to bring awareness and aid hunger in our Community.

The event takes place beginning at 6pm on Thursday April 26 at Third Baptist Church. The church is located at 526 Allen St. in Owensboro. Tickets are $15 per person and include your bowl, one of a kind pieces created by locat potters, and your dinner.

This year there are several varieties of soup to fill your bowl. Soups range from Chicken Noodle to Tuscan Vegetable. Lentil, Tomato Basil and Black Bean soup will also be featured.

Only 300 tickets will be sold and if my math serves correct, $4500 could be raised if all 300 are sold. Additional dollars are possible as some people pay more than the suggested $15 per bowl.

Proceeds will go to local food pantries and soup kitchens who apply for the financial help in the form of grant requests. The committee selecting the recipients is looking for those who have the greatest need. The grant will be awarded during the event April 26.

Now for the important part. Tickets are available in advance Monday thru Friday at the Brescia University Campus Center Information Desk. The address is 717 Frederica. St. Hours are 8 a.m. till noon and 1 to 4 p.m. If available, they can also be purchased at the door.

Brescia University's Art Department suppliest the clay, glaze and a place for local potters, who donate their time, to make the bowls.

I think Kathy and I might have to try a couple of different soups that night. I am thinking chicken noodle and Kathy loves tomato basil.
