West Louisville Elementary School is hosting a Farewell Celebration from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 15. The school, located at 9661 Kentucky 56, will close at the end of the 2010-11 school year to be replaced by the “new” West Louisville Elementary School.

The event is open to all current and former students, staff members and friends. The day will feature tours of the (current) school, displays of WLES memorabilia and lots of fellowship.

Donations will be accepted and appreciated for refreshments and desserts, with proceeds to be used toward playground equipment at the new school. The fundraiser will also include a sale of WLES memory books priced at $15; WLES prints for $10; commemorative bricks starting at $40; a school library book dedicated in honor of a specific person for $10; WLES buttons for $1 each or six for $5; and WLES history mugs and cups.

An inflatable bouncer will be available outside for our younger crowd to enjoy. A highlight of the day will be a display of student artwork depicting favorite school memories. Memories from the past will also be shared via PowerPoint presentations and displays in the cafeteria and gymnasium.

A short program will begin at 4:15 p.m. in the gym, featuring a musical presentation by the school choir. Principal Connie Morgan will make closing comments.

Everyone is invited to attend and take part in this special celebration of a special school and its history. For more information, Cristy Dame or Connie Morgan at WLES, 852-7650.
