First F.D.A. Approved Drug for Postpartum Depression has Owensboro Ties

The first drug for women suffering postpartum depression received federal approval on Tuesday and Research Integrity, in Owensboro, had a hand in making this happen!

Brexanolone, which will be sold as Zulresso, is the first drug specifically targeted to treat postpartum depression, which is a serious mental illness that impacts 1 in 9 new mothers, after giving birth to their child.

After many clinical trial studies, carried out over the last few years, Sage Therapeutics can finally release this new medication. It will help so many.

One of my dear friends, works for Research Integrity in Owensboro, and is over the moon that this new medication was finally approved. At Research Integrity, the team already saw very positive results in their clinical trials of this medication. Jacque Nalley worked literally day and night last year, just like the rest of the staff as they all knew this medication could be a game changer for so many women.

I spoke with Jacque today and her enthusiasm was contagious. She commented, "We personally got a phone call from Sage Pharmaceuticals this morning thanking us because we were a major contributor". She went on to say, " They also told us that they would forever be grateful to us for our dedication and for our tireless efforts."

This medication has been approved for use in adults, however, Research Integrity is currently doing the same study for mothers 14 – 17 years of age. They're hopeful that this medication will soon be approved for Major Depressive Disorder with Insomnia, in pill form.

Research Integrity is a contributor in a large percentage of medications, covering a variety of illnesses, that are approved by the F.D.A for manufacturing. We can't wait to see what's next.
