Free Mammoth Cave Tours on Martin Luther King Day
One of the seven natural wonders of the world is a stone's throw from here and if you've never been, maybe it's time.
Especially if you don't have to pay.
Martin Luther King Day is January 20th and on that day, Mammoth Cave will be offering free tours.
I remember years and years ago when I was a kid and my family would pile into the car and head south for a day of organized spelunking.
My sister and I used to crack up when we'd walk through "fat man's misery," a narrow portion of the tour.
Dad was a big dude at the time and watching him squeeze through and make jokes about it while doing so was hilarious.
The shoe's on the other foot now, if you know what I mean. Plus, I have a height issue and, well, it's a cave. You can fill in the blanks.
But touring Mammoth Cave is such a blast and a must if you live in the area. There's so much to learn.
According to WBKO-Bowling Green, guests will need to snag their free tickets at the visitors' center before taking a tour. Those tour times begin at 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., and 2:30 p.m. CT.
Mammoth Cave offers free tour days periodically throughout the year and hopefully this trend of unusually nice January weather--for the most part--will reappear on January 20th.
