During many of the three decades prior to Sunday, girls' basketball in the 3rd Region had been dominated by two teams, Muhlenberg North/County and Ohio County. Owensboro Catholic had journeyed to state in the past couple of years, including last year. This year, Grayson County out of Leitchfield is finally getting their turn.

Sunday's 3rd Region title game featured the Lady Cougars and the Lady E-Gals of Apollo. The Apollo girls had not been to state in twenty years. The Lady E-Gals are going to have to wait another season as the Lady Cougars won 36-31.  Next stop for Grayson County, the St. Elizabeth Healthcare Sweet 16 at Northern Kentucky University. Grayson Co. senior Grace White has signed to play with NKU next season.

The Lady Cougars will take on 9th Region champs Holmes High School on Thursday night at 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
