Holding Cell Phone While Driving is Now Illegal in IL and TN

Every year, new laws roll out July 1, and this year there is a big one, that could affect you.

In an effort to decrease distracted driving, Illinois and Tennessee have joined 16 other states and and the District of Columbia, by making it illegal to hold a cell phone while driving.

The Hands Free law is a moving violation, and after 3 offences in one year, your license will be suspended! It's not cheap, either. The first offence is $50 and stays on your record.

I'm certainly guilty of driving with my cell phone in hand. I don't like to use my Bluetooth, because it takes over the radio. I guess I'm going to have to figure that out before next week. This new law also applies to drivers in Tennessee. I'm heading to Nashville next Tuesday, so I should probably just leave my phone in the trunk!
