As is typical for this part of the Ohio Valley, summer is arriving early. It's not waiting until June 20th. It's not even waiting until June 1st, the beginning of METEOROLOGICAL summer. It's happening this week and especially this weekend when highs are expected to be in the upper 80s

Additionally, we’re taking off and spending Saturday in Nashville where the projected high is 90 degrees. I don’t know about you, but it feels like we’ve put highs in the low 60s and lows in the low 40s in the rearview mirror.

It sounds like summertime is getting an early start in Owensboro and Daviess County. But, then again, doesn’t it always?

And I am itching for it.

I’m not the most cold-natured person you’re ever going to meet, but I’m not as hot-natured as I used to be and after 15 months of a pandemic, I am ready to spend as much time outdoors as I possibly can. I guess I got bitten by the summer bug Saturday night while enjoying live music from the Owensboro High School Jazz Band and Red Steel at Live on the Banks.

Well, now I’ve been bitten again. But this time it’s because of something under construction that isn’t even FOR me.

Horse Fork Creek Park on Fairview Drive is adding a playground adjacent to its wildly popular spray park and the equipment is going up quickly.

It’s being built and installed by the same company that installed the playground equipment at Smothers Park. And it’s going up not a moment too soon.

Bring on the outdoors. Bring on the vitamin D and, by all means, bring on the summertime.
