Ice Storm Warning Issued for Most of Western Kentucky
It's been 12 years since we've heard the phrase "ice storm warning," but it's back, whether we like it or not.
The National Weather Service has issued an ice storm warning for a large section of the Commonwealth include most of western Kentucky.
In the WBKR coverage area, Daviess, Hancock, Henderson, and Union Counties are under a winter weather advisory. The rest of our western Kentucky are included in the ice storm warning:
...Prolonged wintry precipitation event expected later Tonight through Thursday... .A significant wintry precipitation event is expected to return across the Quad State later tonight and persist through Thursday. At this time, significant and dangerous ice accumulations are expected by Thursday morning, especially over parts of west Kentucky, the southern tip of Illinois, and the Delta region of southeast Missouri. However, notable ice accumulation is possible over the remainder of southern Illinois, southeast Missouri, and southwest Indiana.
...ICE STORM WARNING IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO 6 PM CST THURSDAY... * WHAT...Significant icing expected. Total ice accumulations of two tenths to a half inch possible with the highest amounts along the southern portions of the Kentucky Pennyrile and Purchase Area. For the counties under the winter weather advisory, here's what the National Weather Service is saying:

Needless to say, the National Weather Service is advising against traveling in this kind of weather. But if you must, keep an extra flashlight, some food and water, and a blanket, in case of an emergency. Also, power outages will be possible.
