IMPACT 100 Owensboro, a community of women that seeks to transform lives in the Greater Owensboro area through high-impact and lifelong giving, will award two grants of $111,000.00 each on Thursday night. The group has given $1,462,000 to the greater Owensboro area in the last seven years.

The annual meeting of Impact 100 will be Thursday at the Owensboro Country Club.  The social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m., followed by  the finalists presentations and
vote at 6 p.m.  The members will have dinner at 7:30 p.m. with the announcement of the 2012 grant recipients immediately afterwards. We hope to have the recipients on the WOMI Morning Show Friday at 6:30. If not, Impact 100 founder Maretha Clark will join me.

Culture ~ RiverPark Center “Cannon Hall Refurbishment Request” would refurbish Cannon Hall’s carpeting, seating, communication devices and stage lighting. The RiverPark Center’s mission is to seek to improve the quality of life by hosting and presenting diverse arts and civic events, focusing on arts in education.

Education ~ Kentucky Wesleyan College “Service Learning Program” aims to unite their campus with Owensboro and Daviess County to teach leadership through service, fostering community engagement, advancing social justice and promoting citizenship through volunteerism. KWC seeks to renovate campus space, purchase office furniture, computers, technology, and field materials. Their mission is to prepare students to be productive, engaged, and socially responsible citizen leaders.

Environment, Preservation and Recreation ~ Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana project “It’s Your Planet – Love It!” is an environmental education and recreation program designed to connect youth with nature. It will increase environmental literacy in children and provide a new community resource in the form of a nature center in a wild setting. Girl Scouts mission is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.

Family ~ Cliff Hagan Boys & Girls Club proposes a “Building Expansion” to the Mike Horn Unit to serve as a cafeteria, as well as, space for a new music and arts program. This Club wishes to increase the services provided in three areas of focus: education, health and fitness, and community service. Their mission is to inspire and empower young people by offering meaningful opportunities that will enhance the quality of life for youth and enable them to realize their full potential.

Health & Wellness ~ Owensboro Area Shelter, Information & Services (OASIS) project “Finishing Touches” will focus on improving kitchen operations, functionality of a snack bar and kitchenette, update the lobby, purchase a van to transport clients, open a computer lab, add outdoor activities for children and a quiet garden for the women. The mission of OASIS is to provide shelter, support and advocacy to families affected by domestic violence.
