If someone made a candle with the scent of your hometown, what would it smell like?

In a former life when I worked at local funky gift shop, Studio Slant, we once had a line of candles made.  They were named after different parts of town with different scents like Dogwood Azalea Trail that smelled like spring flowers or Yellow Creek Park that smelled like sandalwood. Everyone's favorite though, was just good ole Owensboro. It was sweet with a hint of citrus.

When I think of what Owensboro smells like, I think of lots of different things. Some delicious and some...not so much.

Pleasant Owensboro smells would include: the baking smells from the bread factory, Lilacs and other flowers along the Dogwood Azalea Trail and bourbon, the Green River Distilled kind, of course.

I can't forget to mention the glorious aroma of smoke from a bar-b-que pit. One of my favorite parts of BBQ & Barrels this past weekend, was being down with all of the pit masters!

Luckily the list of smells that make me hold my breath is much shorter! The wave of soybean that wafts over downtown, Also, the manure smell that creeps into town when crops are being fertilized.  You know the time of year that makes us all worry we've stepped in something?
