The 2024 Great Race is set and the fun gets underway Saturday, June 22nd in downtown Owensboro. Though the race has come through town before, this will be the first time in the event's history that its official starting line will be here. City of Owensboro and Great Race officials are expecting a rousing send off as this year's competitors roll out onto the course.

Making the event even more exciting for the hometown crowd is the fact that we have a local team competing in the race. Brian Smith and Scott Howard will be joining forces to navigate the 2,300-mile course. The race begins in Owensboro and will ultimately conclude in Gardiner, Maine.

The Great Race is a long-distance vintage car rally that uses pre-1975 cars. Brian and Scott are going back a few more decades than that. They're going to be competing in a 1930 Ford Model A Tudor Sedan. If you haven't seen one of those before, this will give you an idea of what they're like.

Brian has owned his Ford Model A Tudor since 1987, but it's getting quite the makeover for the upcoming adventure. The two have been spending lots of time in the garage getting it ready for the road.

The Great Race will cover thirteen different states over nine days and there will be 120 teams competing. As Brian says, "We feel lucky to have a spot." Brian encourages everyone to come to the official starting line downtown to cheer on them on and support the local team.
