It started last December with the transfer of guard Quade Green (he landed at Washington). Then, at season's end, another guard--Jemarl Baker--announced his decision to move on (he landed at Arizona).

And, now the Great UK Guard Defection of 2019 continues with the news that University of Kentucky head coach John Calipari's son, Brad, will enter the transfer portal.

I suppose the thinking in a situation like this might lead one to believe that a coach's son would NEVER transfer, just because he's the coach's son.

But take blood ties out of the equation and you have a walk-on guard who takes a look at the landscape, knows that he still has two years of eligibility left, and sees a 2019-2020 Wildcats squad, flush with talented guards (returning sophomores Ashton Hagans and Immanuel Quickley along with incoming freshman Tyrese Maxey), that may not have room for him.

Then, it all makes sense that young Brad would want to explore his options beyond Lexington.

Keep in mind, entering the transfer portal does NOT mean Brad will definitely go. But I bet he does.

And he will have his dad's support, 1000%.

I just don't see him getting very much playing time next season with the 'Cats if he stays. Additionally, there's still plenty of time between now and November. It's enough time to give Coach Calipari the opportunity to find a fourth guard.

Bottom line for me is that I think Brad Calipari moves on to his next stop, gets tons of PT at, perhaps, a mid-major power, and does what he's always wanted to do.

I wish him well.
