Kris Kristofferson is Coming to the Tri-State!

Kris Kristofferson is an incredibly talented songwriter and musician, but his talent does not end there.

Kris Kristofferson is still touring today, and one of his next stops is….. Evansville! He will be performing at the Victory Theatre on Main Street on Tuesday, November 19th!

Kris Kristofferson is without a doubt a renaissance man. He was born in Texas in 1936 to a military family. While at Pomona College in California, he received a Rhodes scholarship at Oxford University. While there, he was a golden glove boxer and played rugby.

After college, Kristofferson served in the U.S. Army as an Airborne Ranger helicopter pilot as a captain. He was offered a teaching position at West Point Academy but turned it down and moved to Nashville with dreams of being in music.

As Brent Gardner tells me, he was struggling to find success in music until he decided to approach Johnny Cash with his music. He rented a helicopter and flew to Cash’s house, landed in his front yard, and handed him the song. Johnny Cash loved his music and was impressed by Kristofferson’s tenacity.

His songs “Me and Bobby McGee”, “Help Me Make It Through the Night”, “Sunday Morning Coming Down”, and “For the Good Times” all jumped to top of the charts. He is credited to be one of the artists who redefined country songwriting.

Despite all of his success in music, it did not in there. Kristofferson then moved to Hollywood where he starred in classics like “Lone Star”, and the “Blade” trilogy. In 1977, he won a Golden Globe for his role in “A Star is Born”.

Kristofferson is a three-time Grammy winner and has released 29 albums including three with Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, and Waylon Jennings as part of the Highwaymen. He is also a proud member of the Country Music Hall of Fame and the winner of the Johnny Mercer award and the winner of the “Veteran of the Year Award” in 2002.
