Once you drive over the river and through the woods to Grandmother's house, and THEN you realize you need just a few more things from Kroger, make sure you're eating early enough.

Kroger will be closing at 4PM on Thanksgiving Day and that really shouldn't pose a problem for any last minute shoppers. I mean, my family eats dinner on Turkey Day pretty late and that 4PM closing time would still have no effect on us.

Now that's what Kroger is doing. If, over the years, you've made it a tradition in your family to start your Black Friday on Thanksgiving Day, keep in mind that a LOT of stores will not be open UNTIL Friday.

I always start my Black Friday at Shoe Stop. I remember past live broadcasts when folks would come rolling in at 5AM like the store had been open all day and it was 7 o'clock at night. Nope, they'd just been up all night long shopping.

Do you remember that? It wasn't really that long ago that, in addition to stores kicking off Black Friday on Thanksgiving Day, those stores would also stay open all night. Seriously, I've talked to friends early on Black Friday who'd been back and forth between Owensboro and Evansville all night long.

That tradition might be short-lived with so many stores closing all day on Thanksgiving. According to TheBlackFriday.com, it won't be necessary to hurry through dinner to get to places like Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Kohl's, Home Depot, Lowe's, Sam's Club and others. Meijer wasn't listed so I called them. That's the big box store that WILL be open on Thanksgiving Day--from 6AM to 4PM.

Enjoy your dinner. Enjoy football. Enjoy your family. Save the shopping for Friday and beyond.

Happy Thanksgiving!
