I Got Rid of All My Vinyl Records Years Ago, But I Wish I Still Had These Five Albums

Friday, August 12th, 2022 is National Vinyl Record Day and I really wish I could celebrate. Though vinyl records have made a rather random comeback in recent years, I don't think I have actually owned one since the 80s. I remember owning a handful of 12" singles and some of those may have been from the early 90s, but it's been a hot minute since I have actually fired up a record player.

That said, because it's National Vinyl Record Day, I have been reminiscing about some of the ones that I used to own and a handful of favorites keep springing to mind. So, I decided to compile a quick list of vinyl albums that I'm certain that I used to have and wish I had kept.

Here's that list and, trust me, it will make very obvious the fact that I was a child of the late 70s and early 80s.

#5- WE ARE THE WORLD

Everyone is familiar with the song "We Are The World". After all, it featured dozens of incredibly popular 80s stars and quickly rose to #1 on the Billboard charts.

But there was an entire We Are The World album and I had it.  The last time I saw the thing, it was still wrapped in its original plastic.  The only problem? I can't remember where I saw it last or where I put it.

#4- CYNDI LAUPER- SHE'S SO UNUSUAL

I freaking LOVED this album.  Of course, Cyndi was propelled to instant pop superstardom with "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun."  There are some other great songs on this album too: "Time After Time", "She Bop" and "All Through The Night". But my absolute favorite song on it was her version of Prince's song "When You Were Mine."

#3- SHAUN CASSIDY & SHAUN CASSIDY- BORN TO LATE

Shaun Cassidy was the very first album I ever bought with my own money. If memory serves me correctly, I am pretty sure I bought it at the Kmart store at Wesleyan Park Plaza in Owensboro.  I used to burn that album up. Of course, I loved "Da Doo Ron Ron", but I was also obsessed with "Hey There Lonely Girl" and "That's Rock 'N' Roll".

Then came this!

And Born Late featured "Hey Deanie" and the awesome "Do You Believe in Magic?"

#2- MICHAEL JACKSON- THRILLER

I know exactly where I was when I bought this album. I grabbed it from the Wax Works location inside Towne Square Mall here in Owensboro. There's just no argument at all. That's one of the best and most successful albums ever.  I played it constantly and loved every single song and, to this day, can still do a mean Vincent Price impersonation. #TheFunkOfFortyThousandYears

#1- DONNA SUMMER- BAD GIRLS

Without a doubt, the album from my vinyl collection that I played most as a kid. Bad Girls was a double album and featured some of Donna's biggest hits: "Hot Stuff", "Dim All The Lights", "Our Love" and, of course, "Bad Girls".

But it also featured some of my favorite of Donna's lesser known songs like "On My Honor" and "There Will Always Be a You."
