The Owensboro Police Department is warning the community of two new scams circulating in our area.  Here is what you need to know.

According to OPD;

We have recently seen an increase in two types of scams.
1) You may receive an email from someone you know asking for money. In many cases the account has been compromised, so please contact that person directly to ensure the request is legitimate before sending any money.
2) You may receive a call claiming you have a warrant andasking for you to pay a fine to avoid going to jail. In some cases the number does appear to be legitimate and they may use an officer’s name. Do not send money, Law Enforcement does not call you requesting you pay fines.
The FBI has established a website to report suspected internet crimes, including scams. If you would like to report such activity, you can do so at https://www.ic3.gov
