Seven of the district’s 12 elementary schools are offering early registration for 2016-2017 preschool, which is open to children who will be 3 years old on or before Aug. 1 and who either meet Head Start eligibility requirements or are identified with a delay or disability; and children who will be 4 years old by Aug. 1 who meet income guidelines or are identified with a delay or disability.

Early registration is being offered starting Monday, Jan. 11, at Audubon, Country Heights, Highland, Sorgho, Southern Oaks, Tamarack and Whitesville elementary schools.

A limited number of fee-based preschool openings are also available to children who do not meet the eligibility requirements listed above. The cost for fee-based preschool is $175 monthly. A $50 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your placement. To ensure a spot in the DCPS fee-based preschool program, applications must be received by Friday, Feb. 12. When registering, parents should provide a certified copy of child’s birth certificate, Social Security card and immunization record.

Preschool is offered in half-day sessions, Monday through Thursday each week. Hours are from approximately 7:40 to 10:40 a.m. for morning sessions and from 10:40 a.m. to 1:40 p.m. for afternoon sessions. Lunch and breakfast are also available. Cost is $1.25 per day for breakfast (served to morning session students) and $1.75 per day for lunch (afternoon session students). Cost may be reduced or waived based on family income. Bus transportation is available to children who live in each school’s attendance zone.

Upon registration, parents will receive a packet of information and will have the opportunity to register to attend Open House sessions, which are available to those registering or considering enrolling in the program. Parents will meet the principal and preschool teachers, while also having an informal question and answer time concerning curriculum, daily schedule, busing and transportation questions, and the many opportunities preschoolers have to receive a quality enhanced preschool experience. Parents should contact schools for times and dates of Open Houses.

Applications are available at the schools listed above or at the DCPS Central Office, 1622 Southeastern Parkway, beginning Jan. 11; or may be downloaded from www.dcps.org (click on “Departments” under “Quick Links,” then select “Preschool”). To ensure a spot in the DCPS fee-based preschool program, applications and $50 non-refundable deposits must be submitted to Stephanie Hunt at the DCPS Central Office, 1622 Southeastern Parkway, Owensboro KY 42303, by Friday, Feb. 12.
