Taking a Hot Bath Burns More Calories than a 30-Minute Walk
Okay! If you listen to my morning show, you know that I am a bath taker. I'm not ashamed to admit it. Taking a bath is part of my early morning ritual. Every day, around 4:45am, I climb into the bathtub and soak until I feel awake. Then, I climb out, get ready and roll into work ready to take the airwaves at 6am. But, if I'm being honest, my early morning bath isn't the only one I take a day. I have been known to take two or three a day. And, guess what? According to a new report by Travel + Leisure, there may be some added health benefits. As it turns out, I'm burning calories in the bathtub!
Travel + Leisure shared the results of a Loughborough University study that put fourteen men through an experiment (why didn't they choose me??). Each man was instructed to ride a bike for an hour, then sit in a bathtub for an hour (with the water at 104 degrees Fahrenheit). Now, obviously, cycling burned a crap ton of calories and the bath didn't even come close. However, the researchers did discover that the one-hour bath burned away about 130 calories, which is about the same amount of calories that someone would work off during a half-hour walk. That's amazing! Rub a dub dub. I'm getting in the tub.
