After 150 hits and countless years of being known as the Greatest Country Music Singer, George Jones Hospitalized on April 18th with a fever and irregular blood pressure, has passed away at 81 years old in Nashville this morning.

George's career in country music started in radio broadcasts of the Grand Ole Opry and sparked his desire to sing, and he left home at 14 years old to start his career.  His first number 1 hit from 1959 was White Lightning and he will be remembered as "No Show Jones" for his absence in numerous performances due to alcohol addiction. Nancy Sepulvado, Jones wife since 1983 is credited for helping him kick his addictions. George was due for a concert tour with sold out shows in Spartanburg South Carolina on May 18th and the Huntsville Alabama show on July 12th. His best known songs include Tender Years, She Thinks I Still Care  and Walk Through This World wtith Me.

He definitely had a very discinct voice and every time he would come on the radio I remember my mom, Cheryl Wharff saying- "..do you know who sings this?" I would always get George Jones correct

Black Shelton tweeted today- "We've lost a country music legend, and i've lost a hero and a friend.  Goodbye, George Jones."
