U.S. Rep. Ed Whitfield, (KY-01), Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Energy and Power, today announced that the U.S. Department of Labor has awarded a National Emergency Grant (NEG) for the State of Kentucky to create temporary jobs dedicated to cleanup efforts from this spring’s weather disasters.

The grant, for $4,276,514, will be awarded to the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet. The NEG funds will be used to create about 317 temporary jobs for eligible dislocated workers to assist with clean-up and recovery efforts as a result of this spring’s weather. Hired employees will assist with projects including clean-up, demolition, repair, renovation, and reconstruction of destroyed public structures, facilities, and lands within the affected communities across Kentucky. Workers may also assist with the delivery of humanitarian aid and safety assistance as necessary.

“This will be greatly beneficial to many of the communities across Kentucky’s First Congressional District and the state as they recover from this spring’s weather,’ said Whitfield. “At a time when many local governments are being stretched thin across several areas, this will provide some relief to our communities as they work to become whole once more.”
