A couple of weeks before I moved into Bemis Lawrence at WKU, my Dad took me by there, because he also lived there his freshman year. I could see my future in this tiny dorm room on the top floor, and now 25 years later, my first dorm is being demolished.

Bemis and its twin dorm Barnes Campbell, which will also eventually come down, the area will become "The First Year Village" which will consist of two new dorms that will feature "pod-style" housing. The Living Learning Communities will also be part of the new Village.

Another reason Barnes and Bemis are being demolished, mold due to the age of the plumbing.

So with this momentous occasion, the Housing and Residence Life department will be hosting a "First Bite" viewing party on Regents Avenue complete with coffee and donuts. The "First Bite" will also be live-streamed Friday morning beginning at 9:00 a.m. CT.

If you have driven by Bemis lately, all the glass in the windows is gone. It's just a concrete shell. Full demolition will take approximately 90 days to complete.

Bemis, named after Vice Chairman of the WKU Board of Regents, Bemis Lawrence, was built in 1966.
