One Of America’s Worst Tourist Traps Is This Illinois Attraction
What an honor it must be for Illinois to add another "not so great" accomplishment to its fast growing list.
From the headline, you probably think I'm just gonna say it's The Bean, aka Cloudgate.
When most out-of-towners talk about visiting Chicago 99% of the time they'll say they really want to visit The Bean. Let me just be blunt here: it's a stainless steel bean-shaped sculpture that reflects Chicago's famous skyline. It ain't that cool.
Anyway, the Illinois attraction that made America's list of "Worst Tourist Traps" is so overhyped it really, really hurts.
One Of America's Worst Tourist Traps Is The Magnificent Mile
Ah, the Magnificent Mile - the place I never visit when I'm in the city. It's a lot of walking that I'm definitely not about to do.
"The Magnificent Mile encompasses the 13-block stretch of North Michigan Avenue that runs from the banks of the Chicago River to the south, to Oak Street to the north." [TMM]
If you're looking to shop or have dinner then this strip is totally for you.
There are over 450 retail stores, 275 restaurants, 60 hotels, and unique attractions that don't sound appealing once you realize you have TO WALK 13 BLOCKS TO SEE ALL OF IT.

Other than that, the Magnificent Mile is "walking distance", and I use that loosely, to downtown Chicago. Downtown has much more for tourists to explore!
Seriously, make the most of your travels this year and find attractions that are rich in history, entertainment that's worth your money, and hidden gems you can't find anywhere else when you come to Illinois.
