Wednesday will be a big day at the Owensboro Daviess County Regional Airport. That is the day we celebrate what Cape Air calls it's Inaugural Flight Celebration. The airline has been providing up to 18 round trips to St. Louis per week since Dec. 5, 2011. The event Wednesday is their version of a Grand Opening.

Cape Air holds a celebration like this everytime they open a new market. The Mayor, Ron Payne will be in attendance as well as County Judge Executive Al Mattingly and other officials. Moonlite Bar-B-Q will cater lunch and 1490 WOMI sister station, 92.5 WBKR, will be broadcasting live from 11 a.m. -1 p.m. I will be hosting the broadcast and look forward to talking with the great folks from Cape Air.

I understand many of the management team from Cape Air will be with us including Cindy Beaton, V.P. Customer Relations, Andrew Bonney, VP Planning, Stacey Putnam Ross, Regional Marketing Manager and others. Brian Kinsey, Assistant Director of Marketing and Business Director at Lambert Airport (St. Louis) will also be in Owensboro for the event.

Since January Cape Air has flown over 500 passengers in and out of Owensboro using St. Louis as it's hub. Flights are only $49 each way (much cheaper than driving and paying to park elsewhere).

I am told that in addition to the festivities listed above there may be some tickets to St. Louis given away tomorrow.

I have traveled on Cape Air several times in the last few months and have found the planes to be comfortable, safe and efficient. From St. Louis I can get to most cities in the country and beyond with ease. In fact a recent trip to Texas was cheaper and easier than flying from Evansville or Nashville and I was 5 minutes from home when I returned.

Wednesday is a day for citizens of Owensboro to meet the folks at the counter, ask questions and see how easy it is to travel the country and world from Owensboro thanks to Cape Air.

If you can't make it be sure to tune in to 92.5 WBKR from 11-1.
