Daviess County and Owensboro Public Schools Stuff the Bus Event Today
A huge back-to-school event is going on today! Daviess County Public Schools and Owensboro Public Schools have teamed up for the fourth annual Stuff the Bus event, which is set for Friday, August 7th. The goal? To literally stuff the buses full of school supplies.
Here's how Stuff the Bus works. Basically, it's exactly how it sounds. DCPS and OPS have school buses parked at the two Walmart locations in Daviess County- 5301 Frederica Street and on Hwy 54. The buses are on site from 7am to 5pm (Frederica Street) and from 8am to 4pm (Highway 54) and the goal is the "stuff" them full of school supplies.
So, if you're shopping and want to help contribute to the cause, you can do so at either Walmart location. In fact, lists of school supplies (for various grade levels) will be available inside both stores and at the buses. Here's a list of most needed items, though any school supplies are welcome.
Paper (loose leaf and notebooks)
Scissors
Pencils, pens, highlighters, crayons
Backpacks
School glue
Rulers
Folders and binders
Calculators
According to DCPS, the 2019 "Stuff the Bus" event generated school supplies valued at more than $19,000. In addition to the donated supplies, DCPS and OPS accepted more than $1,300 in cash donations from generous shoppers. School officials are hoping for an equally successful 2020 event.
And, by the way, if you prepare to attend, please note that "all proper health regulations including masks will be observed throughout the day to keep everyone safe from the spread of COVID-19."
