A few years ago, I had a dead tree cut down out of my backyard.  And I have to be honest, I kind of miss the shade from it and I've been thinking about planting a new tree in its place.  Well, lo and behold, I was scrolling through Facebook yesterday and found the perfect place to get my brand new tree.  The Annual Tree Seedling Give Away starts tomorrow here in town.

The Daviess County Conservation District, in connection with Daviess County Fiscal Court, the Daviess County Parks Department and the USDA/NRCS, is hosting its Annual Tree Seedling Giveaway on Thursday, April 22nd and Friday, April 23rd.

Here's the official announcement shared on social media earlier this week.

This year, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and necessary protocols in place, the giveaway will take place at Horse Creek Park, which is located at 3005 Fairview Drive in Owensboro.

There's a big variety of seedlings being offered this year: Bald Cypress, Grey Dogwood, Pecan, Yellow Poplar, Pawpaw, Shumard Red Oak, Persimmon and White Pine.

The event is first come, first served and there's a limit of ten seedlings per person. But still, even with a limit in place, it's a great opportunity to plant and grow some impressive new trees.  By the way, I wouldn't have a clue which one to plant in the backyard.

The Annual Tree Seedling Give Away is scheduled to run 8am to 3:30pm daily (or while supplies last).  If you'd like more information about how the giveaway works or details about the trees being offered, you can call (270) 685-1707 ext. 3.

Cool Photos from the April 20th, 2021 Snow Showers in the Tristate

According to modern records, the previous record for the latest snow on record here in the tristate was April 18th, 1983. Well, guess what? Last night, we beat that record by two days with snow showers. Here are some cool, fun pics from the historic weather event.
