Ice Climbing in Kentucky Is a Thing and There’s a New Film About It [VIDEO]
Bourbon, horse racing, basketball, barbecue, ice climbing. I'm reminded of the old Sesame Street song, "One of these things is not like the other..."
That list screams Kentucky, doesn't it? And then you get to ICE CLIMBING.
Hey, it's a new one on me, but not on everyone.
Otherwise, there wouldn't be a new film--a documentary--about it.
I've checked out the video preview and it looks really cool. It also looks like something I'll never try but also something about which I'll be very fascinated.
You know, come to think of it, it SHOULDN'T be that surprising that you can ice climb in Kentucky.
If you drive down I-165 in the spring, you can still see ice formations on those rock walls that have a difficult time melting because the sun never hits them.
You get the right mountain face in Appalachians in eastern Kentucky and you'd get the exact same thing on a much grander scale.
I look forward to seeing the full documentary. But that's as far as I'm going to be able to go.
