I enjoy traveling to downtown Rockford, Chicago, and other cities across Illinois. The worst part of driving into urban areas like those is trying to find places to park. Your safest bet is paying for a garage but that could get expensive. I've spent way too much time driving around looking for a free spot on the street. You've got to be really careful because you could get yourself in trouble.

Cities in Illinois have an easy way to make some quick revenue. That's through parking violations. The owner doesn't even have to be anywhere around. The officers just leave the tickets on the car windshield. The price of parking tickets can add up quickly. Especially, if you don't pay them immediately. When you gnore them, you can end up with a boot on your vehicle. There's also the possibility of getting towed.

Parking in the city can be pretty tricky. You have to really pay attention. No parking signs are everywhere. Watch out for permit-only parking too. Nothing can ruin a fun evening more than coming back to your car with a ticket left on the window. Wherever I get one, it seems like such a waste of money.

Parking tickets in the state of Illinois are huge money. It's big business for local governments. They aren't afraid to hand them out. I've received plenty of them in my day. I don't want to find out my lifetime total. It just makes me mad. Just how many parking tickets does Illinois issue in a year?

According to chicago.suntime.com, 

Ticketing is up 25.7% through the first six months of 2022 — from 853,906 tickets through June 30 of last year to 1,073,919 tickets during the same period this year.

 

That's over one million tickets in just the first half of 2022. It only counts Chicago. I can't even imagine what the final total will be for the whole state by the end of the year. I'm sure there are a lot of zeros behind the number of dollars earned through the violations.
