This award continues to be one of the most prestigious and respected awards for non-administrative staff, students, and volunteers statewide. It is inspired by Fred Shea, subject of Mark Sanborn’s national bestseller, The Fred Factor.

The award recognizes individuals whose extraordinary efforts on a daily basis contribute to create a positive atmosphere in Kentucky’s school communities.

A film crew will visit each school district to interview the finalists as part of the award process. The crew is scheduled to visit Karen Puckett at Benton Elementary School in Marshall County May 18, Stacy Kimmel at Whitesville Elementary in Daviess County on May 19, and Rick Branham at Pike County Schools May 23.

Chosen by a statewide judging panel representing school districts across the commonwealth, the finalists will be recognized at a special ceremony Friday, July 15, during KASA’s Annual Summer Institute, the premier event statewide for P-12 school administrators.  Finalists will receive $250 each to present to the school program of their choice, overnight lodging at the Galt House Hotel & Suites, and a distinguished marble plaque detailing the award.  The winner will receive $500.

The Kentucky Association of School Administrators is the largest school administrators group in Kentucky, representing more than 3,000 education leaders from across the commonwealth. Formed in 1969, KASA connects education leaders to policymakers, legislators, and other interest groups and provides numerous benefits and services to Kentucky’s school administrators.
