Kentucky Driver and Motor Vehicle Documentation Extension Expires
If you are needing to renew your driver's license, permit, or ID on or after Tuesday (7/7/2020) the 90-day extension period granted for the COVID-19 pandemic has ended.
Cardholders will be responsible for renewing their credential with their local circuit court clerk office in order for it to be considered valid. Cards with an expiration date between March 18th and July 6th are still the March emergency order that automatically provides a 90-day extension to the card's printed expiration date.
During the period of March 1st and September 30th, any individual whose operator's license, permit, ID has expired, will expire, was lost or stolen may apply through a remote application process circuit court clerky in his/her county of residence based on each clerk's preferred method which may be a mail or drop-off form. The applicant must not require any testing when requesting a card renewal or replacement.
Additionally, the grace period for all vehicle and vessel registrations or disabled parking placards administered by county clerks or the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will continue with no penalties charged through the close of business on October 6th.
Kentuckians can renew their vehicle, trailer, or camper registration online HERE, boats may be renewed in person or by mail, and disabled placards must be renewed in person.
